The Ruby on Rails way

ruby

In my return to programming I decided to go for Learning Ruby on Rails (RoR). That lead me to the Ruby programming language. A flexible, elegant and powerful object oriented programming language.

That is also the best way I have found to bring some product ideas to live.

I have been using 37signals for some time and I am always amazed by the high quality of them. That led me to the Ruby on Rails (RoR) framework created by David Heinemeier Hansson in 2003.

Ruby on Rails runs over the Ruby programming language created by Yukihiro “matz” Matsumoto. It is an elegant and powerful language which catch me at the first trial.

Point you browser to http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/about/ and see it for youself !

At this moment I am working with several resources in this learning path:

Books

The Pragmatic Bookshelf at http://www.pragprog.com
Great books and videos on Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Agile Development, Ajax and much more is available at an affordable cost.

Agile Web Wevelopment With Rails – Third-edition

Rails Recipes – “cookbook” approach for basic problem-solution with Rails

Advanced Rails Recipes- The same “cookbook” approach but for complex needs with Rails

Podcasts & Screencasts

Rails Casts by Ryan Bates- Just fantastic little screencasts based on real challenges faced when creating a Rails solution

Ruby5 – Five minute news about Ruby twice a week.

Rails Envy – A RoR blog by two full-time Rails programmers.
Tools

TextMate — The Missing Editor for Mac OS X – a powerful text editor not only for Ruby and Ruby on Rails.

Github – secure source code hosting and collaborative development

As I am just beginning in my road to Rails I hope to have very good and exciting news in the following months.
